Saturn
What did Rome do with this name that Greece had not already done?
Interpreted
The Roman Forum. The Temple of Saturn.
Roman Saturn is Roman religion and civic memory, not simply renamed Kronos. He is bound to sowing, wealth, the Temple of Saturn on the Forum, which held the state treasury, and to a Golden Age that Romans could remember as a political story as much as a myth.
Identification with Kronos happened, and it mattered. It does not erase Saturn’s own rites, his pairing with Ops, or the civic functions of his house. Recover the Roman god as Roman before using him as a mask for a Greek Titan or a planet.
Why nextOnce a year the civic calendar scheduled a pause in severity. That pause has a name, a date, and a limit.
