The Limit

What is a limit for?

The question is not what Saturn makes you do. The question is what a limit is for. The Roche boundary keeps ice from becoming a moon and so lets a ring exist. Saturnalia schedules a reversal and then closes it. Cassini’s last burn is a limit chosen to protect oceans no one has walked.

When does structure protect? When does it imprison? What can only ripen because it takes time? These are human questions that Saturn’s physics and history make thinkable. They are not planetary orders issued to a biography.

A boundary may be a prison. A boundary may also be the shape that lets something survive.
